Spotlight on Key Commodities and Products to Watch
- Surging Durian Exports: Durian exports soared by 47.1% year-on-year to reach approximately $1.77 billion in the first seven months, with China making up over 93% of the market share. Looking ahead, the peak harvest season in the Central Highlands and the conclusion of Thailand’s durian season are expected to inject an additional $1.5 billion into durian export value during the final months of the year.
- Fruits, Vegetables, and Seafood: Fruit and vegetable exports exceeded $6 billion (a 24.9% increase), while seafood generated $7.9 billion.
- Pepper: Export volume grew by 14.5% to 190,100 tonnes, with total value hitting $1.2 billion at an average price of $6,513.80 per tonne.
- Coffee and Rice Face Pressures: Coffee export volume reached 1.3 million tonnes (up 13.1%), but value dropped 9.1% due to price pressures. Similarly, rice volume declined 6.3% and value fell 11.9% amidst shifting global market prices.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade expects that abundant domestic yields and robust demand from China will continue to drive strong momentum for Vietnam’s agricultural export sector through the final quarter of the year.
